Kennewick Jimmy John's restaurant temporarily closed after illness reports

Tri-City HeraldMay 23, 2014

Benton-Franklin Health District officials are looking into several complaints of gastrointestinal illness the last couple of days, including from some people who’ve eaten at Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches in Kennewick.

The West Clearwater Avenue restaurant is temporarily closed during the investigation, said Susan Shelton, the health district’s food safety program manager.

It’s not an uncommon step, Shelton said, adding that restaurant officials “have been incredibly helpful to us.”

Earlier this week, state health officials warned of some cases of E. coli illness possibly linked to raw clover sprouts from an Idaho producer. Sprouts were eaten at food establishments in other parts of Washington and Idaho, including Jimmy John’s restaurants.

Shelton said the local investigation is ongoing and “we’re looking at all the variables we have.”
