Revelry on Red Mountain, a fine wine and dining event, planned this weekend

Loretto Hulse, Herald staff writerMay 21, 2014

Enjoy fine wines and superb dining during Memorial Day weekend at wineries on Red Mountain on the eastern edge of the Yakima Valley.

The Auction of Washington Wines, a fundraising organization of wineries, wine growers and others involved in the state's viticulture industry are holding Revelry on Red Mountain on Saturday and Sunday. The event includes wine tasting, vineyard tours and gourmet winemaker dinners.

On Saturday, mingle with 20 winemakers while sampling vintages and snacking on gourmet fare on the terrace at Col Solare Winery, 50207 Antinori Road, Benton City.

There also will be a silent auction. Cost for the evening is $95 per person. Hours are from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

The Auction of Washington Wines annually recognizes winemakers and growers who are nominated by their peers.

This year, Tom and Anne-Marie Hedges of Hedges Family Estate winery in Benton City are the Honorary Vintners. Brothers Larry and Dick Olsen of Olsen Brothers Vineyards in the Yakima Valley near Prosser are the Honorary Growers.

On Sunday, choose from one of the four winemaker dinners: J. Bookwalter in Richland, Gordon Brothers Wine Bar in Pasco or Cooper Wine Co. or Hedges, both in Benton City.

Cost for the dinners is $195 per person.

The event benefits uncompensated care at Seattle Children's Hospital and supports future winemakers through viticulture and enology research at Washington State University.
