Letter: Water policy is a turnoff

Where are the customer-orientated city employees? I tried several times to have someone come out and fix our water turnoff valve. I was told that if I tried to fix it and it broke, I would have to pay for it. Finally, after two years someone came out and fixed the turnoff. Now I can fix my pipes if they freeze.

Here is the rub. If a pipe breaks, they will charge $85 to come out and turn the water off. (It is a one-half turn valve.) This is only available during business hours. If after that, wait till the next day. This used to be free. You can see why I needed the turnoff valve fixed.

Could any city or county facility exist in the private sector. Talk about hidden fees at the airlines.
