Softball: Only Kamiakin survives 3A elimination games

Emily Benson was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, home run and five RBIs as top-seeded Kamiakin trounced visiting Mount Spokane 14-0 in five innings in a Class 3A District 5/8 tournament elimination game in Kennewick.

Kamiakin is now one win from the state tournament and will face North Central at 11 a.m. Saturday at University High in Spokane. The winner earns a state berth, while the loser will have another shot Saturday.

Kamiakin scored 10 times in the fourth inning to put the game into the mercy-rule range.

SHADLE PARK 10, SOUTHRIDGE 9: Jordan Ziemba and Makensie Meyer each hit solo home runs, but it wasn’t enough as the Suns ended their season with a loss to the Highlanders in a Class 3A District 5/8 tournament elimination game in Spokane.

Southridge trailed 10-4 after five innings, but rang up five runs in the top of the sixth to pull within 10-9.

Sam Scogin added a double and two RBIs for Southridge.

North Central 6, Hanford 5: Kadi Patterson was 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs, but the Falcons were upset by the Indians in a Class 3A 5/8 tournament elimination game in Richland.

Hanford, the No. 2 seed from the Mid-Columbia Conference, fell behind 6-0 to the No. 3 seed from the Greater Spokane League. The Falcons scored five times in the fifth inning, but couldn’t push across the tying run.

Miranda Foraker had an RBI double and Alane Wilkerson added an RBI.
