Expect more patrols out on Washington roads

Herald staffMay 18, 2014

There will be extra law enforcement officers on the roads this month checking for seat belt violations and distracted drivers.

The extra patrols, which start today through June 1, are part of the statewide Click it or Ticket campaign, according to the Washington Safety Traffic Commission.

During a crackdown in April on distracted drivers in Benton and Franklin counties, officers issued 49 cellphone violations.

Officers statewide issued 2,963 seat belt violations and 1,879 cellphone violations during the 2013 campaign.
