Fast Focus: 'Do we need a death penalty?' Abolish death penalty

May 18, 2014

We must abolish the death penalty for at least these two reasons. First, trusted studies show that one in 20 who are put on death row are later proven innocent. This death of innocents at the hand of all of us is unconscionable. We must be better than that.

Second, the death penalty is demonstrably not cost effective. We spend way more public funds seeking this grotesque form of vengeance than we would for life in prison. It isn't even close. Let's help balance our budget by ending a barbaric practice. Win-win. How? Let us vote out of office all politicians supporting the death penalty. Your vote counts (that is, if you are allowed to vote).
