Baseball: Richland High falls short of state

May 17, 2014

Gonzaga Prep 9, Richland 5: The Bullpups jumped out to a 6-0 lead and held on for the win to eliminate the Bombers and keep them out of the state tournament for the first time since 2006.

Stuart Moore doubled and drove in three runs for Richland during a four-run sixth inning, but it was’t enough to overcome a strong pitching and defensive performance by Prep.

“It’s never fun to lose the last game of the season. Unfortunately, if you don’t win state, that’s the way it goes,” Bombers coach Grant Richardson said. “We played hard at the end, but we didn’t come out with the fire we needed to beat a good Gonzaga Prep team.”

“We just didn’t hit the ball as well as we normally do,” Wa-Hi coach Keith Gradwahl said. “Take your hats off to the GSL.”
