Chiawana 8, Pasco 1: Monique Maldonado went 3-for-4 with a double and drove in two runs to lead the Riverhawks over Pasco (4-17) in a 4A District 5 elimination game.

Chiwana (13-8) will host Walla Walla (14-4) at 11 a.m. Saturday in a loser-out game. Winner plays Richland (18-2) for 1-2 seeding for regionals

“We played defense really, really well,” said Riverhawks coach Paul Antonovich. “Carlee (Gerds) threw a lot of ground balls and we made plays. We would like to see a few more hits. We have things to work on before Saturday morning.”

Brittany Cruz hit a solo home run in the fourth inning for Pasco’s only run.

Othello (19-1, 17-1) tied Ellensburg for the league title and will take the No. 2 seed (via draw) into next week’s district tournament.
