Bechtel earns award for safety programs

By the Herald staffMay 15, 2014

Bechtel National has earned the Voluntary Protection Program Star for the second time for its safety programs and record at the Hanford vitrification plant.

Star status is the Department of Energy's highest recognition for safe work, focusing on employee-led safety programs, and manager involvement and follow-though.

"Looking out for each other on a large construction site is critical to achieving the level of safety we and the Department of Energy expect," said Peggy McCullough, Bechtel project director for the plant.

Workers have taken ownership of their safety and the safety of co-workers, she said.
