Thankful Thursday: ConAgra volunteers

May 14, 2014

Second Harvest relies on volunteers in our mission to get food to where it's needed most. During National Volunteer Month in April, we welcomed many new and returning volunteers from area businesses and organizations to our Pasco distribution center. This included dedicated folks from ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston, who provided an exceptional "Month of Service" to our organization.

A total of 111 ConAgra volunteers donated 289 hours of time, which included sorting and repackaging 72,000 pounds of food for our partner food banks and meal programs. Cash donations raised by employees will help provide more than 46,000 meals. Volunteers gave out more than 8,000 pounds of perishable groceries at our Mobile Food Bank -- including potato products donated by ConAgra Foods Lamb Weston -- to 285 families in need. This was a great example of ConAgra's collaboration with Second Harvest from farm to table!

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dave Sanford and the employees of ConAgra Foods for their generous contributions and "all-in" partnership providing food, funds and volunteers in our mutual efforts to feed hungry children, families and seniors. We look forward to our continued partnership as we respond to unprecedented need in our community.
