Kennewick soccer routs Shadle Park

May 14, 2014

The Kennewick Lions got a hat trick from Armando Ponce and two goals from Juan Cancino, who highlighted an 11-0 rout of the Highlanders at Spokane Falls on Tuesday in the 3A district-regionals tournament.

Kennewick outshot Shadle 37-2 to complete the MCC’s three-game Class 3A sub-regional sweep of the GSL.

Lions coach Brian Gochoel said he pulled all his starters five minutes into the second half.

“It shows the quality of our league,” Gochoel said. “Playoff time creates a sense of urgency. The boys knew they had to come out strong to let Shadle Park chase the game. I was happy to led everybody get some playing time.”

Henry Hernandez and Daniel Blehm shared the shutout in the Lions goal.
