High-level sex offender living in Kennewick

— A high-level sex offender convicted of child rape is now living in Kennewick, according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

Steven Michael Baird, 31, notified the sheriff’s office he is living on the 700 block of S. Bermuda Rd.

He was convicted of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes in 2002 and third-degree rape of a child in 2006, the sheriff’s office said.

Baird also failed to register as a sex offender in Benton County earlier this month, the sheriff’s office said.

Baird is classified as a Level 3 sex offender, meaning he is considered a high risk to reoffend. He is currently under Department of Corrections’ supervision.

A sex offender meeting is held the second Wednesday of each month at the Kennewick Police Department. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. and officials provide information about Benton County sex offenders.
