Benton, Franklin commissioners review administrator candidates

Benton and Franklin county commissioners spent about 11/2 hours Monday interviewing finalists for the bicounty human services administrator. But they ended the special meeting without making a pick.

Commissioners asked staff from the two counties to gather more information, including checking references.

The commissioners are expected to make a selection soon.

About 40 people applied for the human services post, which became vacant after Ed Thornbrugh stepped down at the end of March to take a position with Central Washington Comprehensive Mental Health.

Thornbrugh became the bicounty department's administrator in 2010 after serving as the deputy director for about two years.

The Benton and Franklin county administrators narrowed the pool of applicants for Thornbrugh's job to three finalists.

Each finalist was interviewed Monday in a closed session with commissioners. County officials didn't make the finalists' names public Monday.

The human services department provides direct services, including through the Crisis Response Unit and the Coordinated Entry System, which is a one-stop intake for housing programs. It also coordinates providing a range of other services in the two counties.

The administrator job was posted with a salary of $5,959 to $7,734 per month.
