Former Richland High School security guard resigns amid investigation

By The Tri-City HeraldMay 9, 2014

A former security guard at Richland High School resigned as the district was investigating him for having inappropriate contact with female students, district officials said Friday.

Dean Colbray contacted students via text messages and social media throughout the school year, said Tony Howard, executive director of human resources for the district. He resigned in March while officials investigated.

District officials consulted with Richland police, but nothing criminal was found.

Police officials told the Herald no reports have been made with their office about Colbray and the students.

Howard did not release any other information about the contact between Colbray and the girls other than saying, "We found some things we didn't like."

The students' parents were notified and worked with school officials during the investigation, Howard said

Colbray, one of two security guards at the school, had been with the district for about a year, Howard said.
