A former Kennewick police officer who was with the department for more than a decade has died.

Jack Bert Frase, 56, died in his sleep at home in Twin Falls, Idaho, said his son, John Frase.

Jack Frase was a patrol officer in Kennewick from 1988-99.

"He was a big man with a big heart," John Frase said. "He treated everybody the same no matter who they were."

He was a reserve officer with Kennewick for several years before he became a commissioned officer, Chief Ken Hohenberg said. He was known for his ability to relate to people and as a strong family man.

"His fellow officers could always count on him," Hohenberg said. "He was one of those guys you could always depend on. He was one of those guys that was always there to support you."

Frase was originally from Spokane and lived in the Tri-Cities for 39 years.
