Hanford boys track and field makes history

May 8, 2014

The Hanford boys track and field team’s dream season continued Thursday, as the Falcons topped city rival Richland High for the first time in program history.

The Falcons finished the league season undefeated, winning the Mid-Columbia Conference title. They also defeated Walla Walla in a dual for the first time and won the Pasco Invite earlier this season.

“The weather was not conducive for good performances, but our guys gutted it out,” Hanford coach Darren Crow said. “You have to hand it to this team. I just told them they created history.”

Dallon Grinder won the shot put and discus, Ben Kelly the 100, Austin Kitchens the 400, Seth Cook the 800, Reilly Smith the 110 hurdles, Daniel Pfaff the high jump, and the Falcons won the 4x400 relay.

All that talent added up to a 76-69 win over the Bombers, who got wins from Payton Radliff (200 and long jump), Michael Williams (1,600 and 3,200), Larry Still (pole vault), as well as the 4x100 relay.

On the girls side, Walla Walla and Richland each picked up a dual victory, while tying each other.

Lauren Perry won the 800 and 1,600 for the Bombers, while Madi Doepker won the shot put and discus for the Blue Devils.

Colleen Gibbons swept the hurdles for Walla Walla, while Hannah Moeller won the 100, Courtney Cox the 3,200, Maddie Sirmon the javelin, Kate Hogan the high jump and Miranda Doyle the triple jump.

Richland also got wins from Breezy Horne in the 200, and Macey Weitz in the pole vault.

Hanford won the 4x400 relay and Amy Pfaff won the 400.
