Letter: Fishing opportunity for kids

May 7, 2014

I am thankful that there is such wonderful support of the Kids Outdoor Education Kids Fishing Day and Special Needs Fishing Day this weekend. I'm thankful not only for all the volunteers who assist with these events but also the local businesses and organizations that enhance the excitement of catching fish by offering prizes for special tagged fish.

This year, almost 800 fish were tagged for prizes totaling more than $1,250. Special thanks to Griggs/Ace Hardware, Ranch & Home, Sportsman's Warehouse, Dairy Queen, and Richland Rod and Gun Club for donating the prizes.

Also, thanks to Paul Hoffarth and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife for raising the fish and assistance with the tagging. If you agree with me, thank these local businesses for their support.

I know I will be seeing the thanks from the smiles on the faces of those children catching their first fish this Saturday, and those getting special prizes for tagged fish.
