Police: Sex offender status raised for Benton County transient

A Benton County transient has seen his sex offender status raised to Level III.

Jeffrey Dean Smith, 35, was convicted of indecent liberties and aggravated sexual abuse in 2011 in Fort Knox, Ky., according to the Richland Police Department.

Smith’s sex offender status was raised to Level II after reports that he made inappropriate sexual comments to adults and young children at the Horn Rapids Community Pool, police said.

Smith’s sex offender status was raised to Level III after he became transient and because of continued inappropriate behavior, police said.

He is not wanted for a crime and is not under Department of Corrections supervision, police said.

Smith is listed as 5-foot-8-inches tall and 235 pounds, police said. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.
