Softball: Richland sweeps aside Hanford

Abby Perryman’s big day at the plate helped lead the Richland High softball team to a sweep of host Hanford, winning 8-3 and 10-6 in Mid-Columbia Conference action.

Perryman was 3-for-3 with a double in the opener and then was 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in the nightcap.

The victories keep the Bombers in line for a shot at the league title, as they close the regular season with a doubleheader against Kamiakin on Friday.

April Utecht finished a combined 6-for-8 with three doubles and two RBIs for the Bombers, while Courtney Kent had a double and two runs scored in the opener.

Kadi Patterson was a combined 4-for-7 to lead Hanford.

Kamiakin 24-21, Pasco 1-0: Emily Benson was a combined 4-for-5 with a triple, home run and two grand slams, driving in a total of 11 runs on the day as the host Braves swept a Mid-Columbia Conference doubleheader.

Hunter Schneider also hit a grand slam, as the Braves pounded out 45 runs on 30 hits.

Kiona-Benton trails Royal by two games for the fourth and final spot into the District 5 tournament. The teams play Tuesday in a doubleheader in Royal City.

Tri-Cities Prep 15, Riverside 5: Mary Hoppes and Victoria Nunez each had four hits as the Jaguars picked up a nonleague road victory.

Tri-Cities Prep (11-5) wraps up its regular season Saturday with a doubleheader against Garfield-Palouse/Tekoa-Oakesdale. If the Jaguars sweep they will earn an automatic berth into the regional tournament.
