Letter: Family mowing photo disturbing

May 6, 2014

A photograph in the May 6 Herald depicted some disturbing safety issues. A man and his two sons were shown mowing their lawn together. Family activities are wonderful when everyone is working together around the house. However, safety instructions should not be overlooked.

The adult was wearing glasses but no hearing protection or substantial footwear. The children should not be around when the grass is being mowed because rocks and sharp objects can be kicked up by the mower blade and hit anyone standing nearby. Hearing, eyesight and toes are precious and, with proper protection, will last a lifetime. I would recommend another picture by the Herald depicting proper safety precautions as mowing starts this season.
