4th District candidate forums start Tuesday

By the Herald staffMay 5, 2014

Candidate forums are planned for those seeking the 4th District congressional seat now held by U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings, R-Pasco.

A forum is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. today at Mid-Columbia Libraries' Kennewick branch, 1620 S. Union St.

The Tri-Cities Fair Tax Supporters group is organizing the event, which will focus on tax reform.

Candidates Clint Didier, an Eltopia farmer and former pro football player; Gavin Seim, an Ephrata artist and filmmaker; Kennewick caregiver Jamie Wheeler; and Josh Ramirez of Pasco, a control specialist at Hanford, have committed to attend, organizers said. Franklin County Commissioner Brad Peck and state Sen. Janea Holmquist Newbry, R-Moses Lake, will send statements.

Republican candidates for the seat will be speaking May 19 at the Tri-City Republican Women's Club meeting at Tony Roma's in Kennewick, 8551 Gage Blvd. A dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by the program.

The Benton County Republican Party will offer its forum for GOP candidates at 6:30 p.m. June 18 in the Richland High School auditorium, 930 Long Ave.
