Letter: KID monopoly

Regarding Larry Wheat's and Walt Gray's recent letters about the Kennewick Irrigation District: If you owned a business where "customers" were required by law to pay you no matter how good or bad the service that's delivered, how much incentive would you have to improve? I think none.

Year after year, manager after manager, complaint after complaint, the improvements are minimal and the cost continues to rise, and we all pay because we have to with no recourse. Again, there is no incentive to improve when you know you will be paid.

A few years ago when I told KID I intended to file a compliant, I was told to file it with the U.S. government and to contact U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings with my compliant as the KID was regulated by the Department of Interior. I choose not to waste my time.

At last year's KID open house at Home Depot, I discussed issues with a KID engineer who gave me her cell number and told me to call when a problem existed. My calls where never answered or returned. If we received the same service at a supermarket or department store, would we continue to give them our business? I doubt it.
