Richland's Fisher shines at Inland Empire tennis tourney

Richland’s Zach Fisher won the boys singles event at the 69th Inland Empire Tennis Tournament on Saturday in Spokane, beating Jordan Strandness of Lewis and Clark 6-1, 6-1 in the title match.

The event hosted almost 800 athletes from 53 schools, and was played at 12 sites in the Spokane area.

Fisher won all five of his matches over the two-day event, losing only eight games.

Kennewick’s Chad McKenzie and Jared Bolt won the No. 1 doubles title, squeaking past Richland’s Trent Prussing and Callum Pe 7-5, 7-5.

Southridge earned a pile of points in the girls doubles, with Sofia Morrison and Bailee Sanderson winning the No. 1 bracket, and Emily Koehler-Shyler Sullivan taking the No. 2 title.

Kennewick’s Zoey Garcia won the No. 2 singles title with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Abby Pederson of Central Valley.

The Bombers won the team title with 147 points, while Southridge was fourth with 121 points and Kennewick sixth with 112.
