Fast Focus: 'Should Richland do more to protect Amon Preserve?' Build an overpass

May 4, 2014

Instead of building a road through Amon Creek Natural Preserve, the city could use the money instead to build an elevated roadway on Columbia Park Trail between just west of the Steptoe intersection and Leslie Road. Many beavers and other wildlife are routinely killed there, trying to get between Amon Creek and to the wetland and pond at the delta. The city could also pay to remove all the Russian olives (an invasive species) in the preserve and contribute to habitat restoration.
