A small fire destroyed a west Pasco hot tub and damaged the exterior of a neighboring house, but caused no injuries Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters weren’t sure what caused the blaze, which ignited around 12:30 p.m. It started in some leaves in a house in the 2200 block of Road 92.

“Kids came running in the house and said some leaves are on fire,” said Capt. Harry March with the Pasco Fire Department. “It spread pretty quickly to the hot tub.” A boat trailer was also damaged. It also melted some siding on the house next door.

Bernie Hanan, who lives in the neighboring house, said she was at church at the time of the fire.

“Somebody said, ‘You’re house is on fire,’ so we left real quickly,” she said.

Hanan said she was thankful that she recently moved her travel trailer from the spot along the fence near where the fire started.

“I’m just glad no one was hurt,” she said.
