Letter: Recriminalize marijuana

May 3, 2014

Legalizing marijuana in Washington was a very bad thing in my opinion. Marijuana is the dried leaves and female flowers of the hemp plant, used in cigarette form as a narcotic or hallucinogen. It is most commonly used as an illegal drug.

After a period of decline in the last decade, its use has been increasing among young people since 2007. Marijuana actually burns about three times hotter than cigarettes, which would burn the lining in your lungs faster, which will cause cancerous cells to spread faster.

People feel high when they smoke marijuana because the THC is choking the brain of oxygen as the result of the goofy feeling.

More than 65 million Americans ages 12 and older smoke and/or eat marijuana. People who smoke marijuana lose memory. Using marijuana while driving is very dangerous, and in the United States 45 percent of reckless drivers are impaired by marijuana.

When you use the drug, it causes an alteration of heart rate, and use of marijuana may result in intense anxiety or panic attacks. These are some facts about how marijuana is a bad substance in Washington.
