Local utilities honored for tree programs

By the Herald staffApril 29, 2014

Benton PUD has received the Tree Line USA Award for the 15th consecutive year.

And Richland Energy Services has earned Tree Line USA status for the 11th consecutive year.

The honor goes to utilities that meet tree care industry standards, provide annual worker training, plant trees and undertake tree-related public education efforts, a city news release said.

Benton PUD's tree program was developed to ensure it provided quality tree care practices and to help customers plant the appropriate trees near utility lines. The benefits of the program have been healthier trees, less outages and long-term savings to Benton PUD, according to the agency.

The Arbor Day Foundation and National Association of State Foresters are partners in the Tree Line USA program.
