— Mary Novelli celebrated her 100th birthday Sunday with a party at the Tri-City Retirement Inn in Pasco.

Novelli, originally from Pomeroy, was listed in the "Who's Who of American Women" for her more than 24,000 hours of volunteer work with veterans in California. She also was on a board that helped name the city of Montclair, Calif.

Novelli, an avid golfer in her younger days, golfed at her country club with Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer, she said.

Family and friends filled the retirement center Sunday to wish Novelli a happy birthday and share stories.

"I never expected to make it this far," she said. "It feels so good."
