Soccer: Pasco High moves into 2nd place with win

The Pasco High boys soccer team moved into second place in the Mid-Columbia Conference on Saturday thanks to a 2-1 shootout victory over Richland High at Edgar Brown Stadium.

Hector Magana, Emilio Meraz-Rodriguez, Saul Chavez and Jesus Meraz-Rodriguez all scored in the shootout to give the host Bulldogs a Mid-Columbia Conference victory over the Bombers.

“It was a good game on both sides,” Pasco coach Matt Potter said. “They had a couple of chances, we had some chances, it was a pretty typical good game between Pasco and Richland.”

The win gives the Bulldogs a half-game lead over Kennewick, and puts them two back in the loss column of Hanford.

Jon Rosas gave Pasco the lead on a goal in the 55th minute, but Ali Kamara tied it on a penalty kick in the 68th eventually leading to the shootout.

Chiawana 2, Kennewick 1: Anieph Grandeson scored the tying goal and Cesar Leon the game-winner as the Riverhawks picked up an important MCC road victory.

The win is the fourth in the last five league games for Chiawana, which plays league-leading Hanford on Tuesday.

Grandview 2, Othello 1 (SO): Antonio Garcia saved a penalty kick by Gustavo Roa to give the Greyhounds a CWAC road victory over the Huskies.

The shootout went to sudden death after the teams were tied 4-4 in the first set of shots. George Lara scored for Grandview and Garcia then made his big save.

Highland 5, Connell 0: Carlos Magana scored twice to lead the Scotties to an SCAC road victory over the Eagles.

Wahluke 3, Mabton 0: Ramon Bravo assisted on Luis Vaca’s goal just two minutes into the game then scored a pair of his own, upping his season total to nine as the Warriors improved to 10-2 in the SCAC and overall.

Sunnyside 3, Wenatchee 2 (SO) (FRIDAY): Christian Chavez scored twice in regulation and netted one of three Grizzlies’ goals in the shootout in aCBBN road win over the Panthers late Friday.

Sunnyside went ahead 2-0 in the first half, but Wenatchee tallied twice in the final 33 minutes to send the game into overtime.
