Texting driver likely cause of Mabton crash, state patrol said

April 24, 2014

— A driver who was texting caused a three-vehicle crash in Mabton that left all three occupants with injuries, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The crash was reported at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Highway 241 and Stover Road.

Randy Vasquez, 26, of Mabton, was texting while driving so he did not notice that two other vehicles were stopped on the highway for a school bus, the state patrol reported.

Vasquez’s Kia Spectra hit the back of a Ford pickup, driven by Danny Perales Jr., 22, of Mabton. The Ford was then pushed in to the back of a Chevrolet Classic, driven by Mayra Amezcua-Alcala, 23, of Mabton.

All three were taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital with unknown injuries.

The crash was caused by Vasquez’s distracted driving, the state patrol said.
