Letter: Nation must change

April 20, 2014

"We have to pass Obamacare so you can find out what's in it." -- U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

Now we know it is a new increased tax vehicle. It includes 20 new taxes and tax increases in the next 10 years. Our itemized tax deductions will increase from 7.5 percent to 10 percent in 2015. Those who have attempted to invest for their later years will find a new 3.8 percent investment tax on investment income over $200,000.

We now pay more in taxes than we do for clothing, housing and food combined. And 49 percent of our total taxes paid to the government goes to entitlements. We are experiencing increases in utilities, food, gas and more, and the government says we need more.

We are over-regulated, overspending and overtaxed, which leaves us with fewer jobs and less freedom. Departments like the Environmental Protection Agency, IRS and the Department of Justice have been allowed to gain powers that were never intended by we, the people.

If the people want to change the policy in Washington, D.C., we MUST change the players. Our elected representatives must have moral and ethical principles that support and exemplify what our Founding Fathers wanted for all individuals and this great country. No matter what your political preference is, let your representative know there must be a change.
