Pasco soccer moves into contention for MCC title

Miguel Chavez had a goal and an assist, and Jon Rosas posted his sixth shutout of the season as Pasco knocked off Hanford 2-0 in Mid-Columbia Conference boys soccer play at Hanford High on Saturday.

“It was nice to play well, get a couple of goals and a shutout,” said Pasco coach Matt Potter. “It was a tough game. Jon was kept busy and definitely earned his shutout.”

The Bulldogs improved to 7-3 in league play, while the Falcons remained on top of the MCC standings at 8-2.

Sunnyside 3, Davis 1: The Grizzlies gave up the first goal, then recorded three unanswered goals to beat the visiting Pirates in CBBN play.

Alexander Marin broke a 1-1 tie in the 62nd minute and added an insurance goal in the final minute for the Grizzlies.

Grandview 2, Ellensburg 0: Antonio Garcia made six saves to get the shutout, while Edgar Cisneros and Alejandro Martinez chalked up goals to keep the Greyhounds undefeated in CWAC play.

Othello 4, Prosser 3: Gustavo Roa tapped in the game-winner on an assist from Christian Herrera, who was fouled in the penalty box before delivering the pass, to lift the Huskies (10-1 overall, 4-0 CWAC) to a close-shave CWAC win over the host Mustangs.

Down 3-0 at the half, Prosser scored three unanswered goals — two by Julio Mojica — to tie the game in the 75th minute.

Othello goalkeeper Angel Rangel had an assist on the Huskies third goal and stopped a penalty kick late in the game.

Mabton 2, Connell 0: The Vikings outshot the Eagles 14-12 and picked up a goal in each half to claim the SCAC East road win. Juan Macedo made nine saves in goal for Mabton.

Wahluke 6, Naches Valley 0: Freshman Emmanuel Hidalgo scored his first career hat trick as the Warriors thumped the Rangers in SCAC action in Naches.

Hidalgo scored his first two goals in the first 19 minutes of the game, then scored the third in the 75th minute to help Wahluke improve to 8-2.

Ramon Bravo scored a pair of goals, Librado Barajas had one, and Alexis Anaya had two assists for the Warriors.
