Forty wineries from Richland to Yakima will celebrate Spring Barrel Tasting on April 25-27.

Forty wineries from Richland to Yakima will celebrate Spring Barrel Tasting on April 25-27.

There will be discounts for wine purchases, appetizers to sample and plenty of new wines to taste in the bottle and barrel.

The wineries generally are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some charge for tasting, though they normally waive it if you make a purchase.

Premier passes, which get you extra goodies to munch and sip, as well as tours not generally available, can be bought at www.wineyakimavalley.org. The cost is $31.

Online sales will stop April 21 but will be available at select locations. Check the website for a list of sites.

Make sure to take a glass along. Wineries won't have time for dishwashing.

The Yakima Valley Community College's vineyard and winery also will be open during Spring Barrel Tasting.

Samples of the college's award-winning wines will be poured in the tasting room from 3 to 5:30 p.m. April 25 and 26, and from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. April 27.

Students will give tours of the facility and man several educational stations, including a wine sensory table and a food and wine pairing table.

The student club also will be selling cut wine barrels for planters.
