Letter: Retaliation at Mozilla

April 14, 2014

Mozilla's co-founder and CEO Brendan Eich just had his career destroyed by an Internet lynch mob led by the OkCupid dating service.

When he wrote a check supporting California's anti-gay marriage initiative six years ago, his view was shared by President Obama, Hillary Clinton and the majority of California voters.

I thought such vicious retaliation against political opposition was limited to places like Iran or Afghanistan under the Taliban, but I was wrong. Maybe this lynch mob should ask how their LGBT brothers and sisters have fared under Iran or the Taliban where vicious retaliation was used against them.

This isn't a slippery slope. It's a cliff that OkCupid and Mozilla's board just stepped over.
