Baseball: Magnaghi's big day leads Walla Walla

April 11, 2014

Reid Magnaghi had a big day at the plate, and Ryan Kimball and Zac Zehner provided strong outings on the mound as Walla Walla swept Chiawana 5-2 and 7-1 on Friday in a Mid-Columbia Conference opening doubleheader at Murr Field.

Magnaghi drove in two runs in each game as Walla Walla scored 12 runs on 18 hits for the day. Kimball struck out eight batters in six innings in Game 1, and Zehner allowed just one runner past second base in the nightcap.

“We executed some things with little ball to help us produce some runs, and a couple of double plays helped us get out of innings,” Blue Devils coach Keith Gradwohl said. “Reid continued his hot hitting for us. He’s got 15 hits in eight games, including five triples.”

Grady Graff drove in both runs for Chiawana in Game 1.
