Kennewick boy in critical condition after falling from window

— A 2-year-old boy is in critical condition after falling from a second-story window this morning in Kennewick.

The boy climbed onto a couch near the window to watch a train go by, said Capt. Eric Nelson with the Kennewick Fire Department. The window was open but had a screen in place.

The boy’s mother had her back turned when he fell 12 feet onto concrete below the window, Nelson said. Firefighters arrived at the apartment complex in the 700 block of N. Arthur St. around five minutes after the fall.

The boy was unconscious when paramedics arrived and he was taken to a trauma center at Trios Health in Kennewick.

This is at least the third time a child has fallen from a second-story window in the Tri-Cities, Nelson said. Firefighters want to remind parents not to place objects next to windows and to keep windows only partially open.

The Kennewick Police Department is investigating the incident, said Sgt. Ken Lattin.
