Mattawa man injured in Highway 240 crash near Richland

— A Mattawa man was injured Saturday after he apparently lost control of his car on Highway 240 nine miles west of Richland and swerved into oncoming traffic.

Abel Perez-Cruz, 28, was driving a 2001 Ford Focus westbound at about 2 p.m. when he drove into the eastbound lane, according to Washington State Patrol.

The Ford Focus was struck by a Ford pickup truck pulling a 5th wheel travel trailer, according to WSP.

Perez-Cruz was injured and transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to WSP. The hospital did not have a record of him being a patient as of Saturday evening.

The driver of the pickup, Barry Douglas, 63, of Ridgecrest, Calif., was not injured.

Perez-Cruz was charged in connection with driving under the influence, according to WSP.
