Two Hermiston men were sentenced to prison this week for property crimes in Umatilla County.

Jeremiah Isaiah Ayers, 24, was sentenced to more than nine years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple felony charges Friday, the Umatilla district attorney's office said.

Ayers pleaded guilty to theft, criminal mischief and drug charges. He was arrested in December in a stolen Shelco electric truck with stolen items from a house and methamphetamine. Ayers also was connected to car prowls in Hermiston in August and September.

Zachary Lawrence Bartz, 21, was sentenced Thursday to 72 months in prison for robbing Hermiston businesses and a house, the district attorney said. He pleaded guilty to theft and burglary charges in March.

Both men will be on post-prison supervision once they are released.

Othello woman injured in chain-reaction crash

OTHELLO -- A three-car crash Friday afternoon injured an Othello woman, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Edith L. Cortez, 37, of Basin City, was driving west on Highway 24 when her 2004 Honda Civic rear-ended a car that reportedly slammed on its brakes before fleeing the scene, the state patrol reported.

WSP described the car as a brown or silver passenger car.

A 2008 Toyota Tundra driven by Samuel G. Gomez, 30, of Othello, then slammed into Cortez's Civic, the WSP said.

Cortez was taken to Othello Community Hospital with unknown injuries.

Cortez and Gomez were cited for following to closely and driver inattention, the WSP reported.
