Mother, daughter struck by truck in Richland crosswalk

Tri-City HeraldApril 4, 2014

— A 52-year-old woman and her 15-year-old daughter were injured late Thursday night in Richland when they were struck by a pickup while using a crosswalk.

Both were taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center, said Richland Police Sgt. Brian Ruegsegger. Their statuses were not immediately available.

Police and the Benton County Sheriff's Office were called to the crosswalk located on McMurray Street near the intersection with George Washington Way just before 8:30 p.m.

Ruegsegger said the woman and her daughter were headed toward a shopping center located across McMurray. They were about halfway across and next to the crosswalk when an eastbound Ford pickup driven by a 77-year-old man hit them.

Both pedestrians were thrown about 10 to 15 feet in front of the truck. The truck's front end also sustained damage.

That section of McMurray was closed to eastbound traffic following the incident though vehicles were being waved through in the westbound lane. The investigation is ongoing
