Letter: Vote smart

April 1, 2014

Why is Benjamin Franklin on the hundred dollar bill? (The most recognized single piece of currency in the world today.)

It is the only piece of printed currency in the United States that does does not feature a past president.

It is because Franklin was one of the most intelligent men of his time. He was our first postmaster general; his zip code system is used throughout the world today. He was an important voice in the formation of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

We the people of Washington are in a rare opportunity at this time. With Doc Hastings retiring from one of the most senior seats in Congress, we need to find our own Ben Franklin to represent us. We need to send the most intelligent person we can find in this state! Not the most politically connected or most popular jock or the richest or best-looking politician. We need to send a person who will not make decisions based on a personal agenda or corporate greed. We need someone who will make intelligent decisions for the state. Let's be smart!
