New television magazine offered

March 30, 2014

The Herald is transitioning away from our Sunday OnScreen TV tabloid. The tabloid will be replaced with daily primetime grids and the opportunity to subscribe to a glossy-cover magazine featuring 48 pages of TV listings, stories and other content.

TV Weekly includes more in-depth daytime and evening program grids and local and national network channels than were published in OnScreen.

The magazine will have six premium network listings, including HBO, Showtime and Cinemax.

Weekly movies are included in the grids, and there are alphabetical listings of movies for the week. The magazine also includes weekly sports highlights.

With hundreds of cable stations and the ability to find program schedules online and on your TV screen, many readers found our limited offering in OnScreen of little value. As a result, it was not well supported by advertising.

"Casual television viewers will find the daily primetime grids convenient, and more frequent viewers will get deeply discounted subscription rates for TV Weekly which offers far more program information than we could have ever given them," said Publisher Gregg McConnell.

Today, in place of OnScreen, you'll find a sample of TV Weekly with this week's listings for our region.

Daily TV listing grids will begin running in the paper starting April 12.

Readers who want to continue getting TV Weekly delivered with their newspaper after April 12 can subscribe to the magazine for as little as 67 cents per issue.

The magazine is distributed nationally in 130 U.S. markets.
