Saturday's softball roundup

Richland’s softball team improved to 4-0 on the season with a pair of nonleague wins at Columbia Playfield in Richland on Saturday.

The Bombers opened with a 6-5 win over Central Valley as Stephanie Merwin drove in two runs and Abby Perryman pitched a complete game, striking out four.

In the second game, Merwin hit a grand slam in the second inning and Kayla Andrews hit a two-run shot in the third as Richland crushed Connell 26-1 in five innings.

April Utecht went 5-for-5 with two home runs, two doubles, a triple and six RBIs for the Bombers, who led 20-0 after three innings. Courtney Kent also homer for Richland and drove in four runs.

Hanford splits pair: Miranda Foraker had three hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs as Hanford beat Connell 15-8 in a softball mixer at Hanford High.

Teammate Lexi Alaniz added four hits, including a triple, for the Falcons, who also lost 14-6 to Central Valley.
