Umatilla County — A Suburban carrying a family of six rolled Thursday after hitting black ice on interstate 84 west of Meacham, seriously injuring a 5-year-old boy who was thrown form the vehicle.
The boy was not wearing a seat belt and was flown to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon State Police said.
His five family members were taken by ambulance to St. Anthonys Hospital in Pendleton with non-life threatening injuries, state police said.
Beatriz Murillo, 38, of Salem, was driving east on the Umatilla County interstate around 11:35 p.m. when she lost control after hitting the ice patch, state patrol said. The Suburban rolled several times, crossing over a median and coming to a rest on the westbound shoulder near milepost 234.
The westbound lanes were closed for an hour as state police, Umatilla Tribal police and emergency responders worked the scene.
