— A Suburban carrying a family of six rolled Thursday after hitting black ice on interstate 84 west of Meacham, seriously injuring a 5-year-old boy who was thrown form the vehicle.

The boy was not wearing a seat belt and was flown to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon State Police said.

His five family members were taken by ambulance to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Pendleton with non-life threatening injuries, state police said.

Beatriz Murillo, 38, of Salem, was driving east on the Umatilla County interstate around 11:35 p.m. when she lost control after hitting the ice patch, state patrol said. The Suburban rolled several times, crossing over a median and coming to a rest on the westbound shoulder near milepost 234.

The westbound lanes were closed for an hour as state police, Umatilla Tribal police and emergency responders worked the scene.

Meacham is an unicorporated community in Umatilla County located off of Interstate 84.
