Former WSU football star, Seahawk to speak

A wine tasting and auction fundraiser to benefit the nonprofit InvestED is planned April 11 at Kiona Vineyards and Winery in Benton City.

The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. People are asked to RSVP by April 4 at

Rueben Mayes, a Washington State University football star who went on to play for the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks, is scheduled to be the keynote speaker.

InvestED provides grants to secondary schools in Washington -- including in the Tri-City area -- to help students in need pay for everything from sports and academic fees to coats and glasses.

Net proceeds from the new Seattle Seahawks specialty license plates that went on sale in January are going to the organization. For more information on the license plates, go to
