Tri-Cities Sunrise Rotary event to raise money for Ethiopia work

By The Tri-City HeraldMarch 25, 2014

Tri-Cities Sunrise Rotary is holding an event Friday to welcome home member Jim Guzek and his team from Ethiopia, where they spent about a week running an eye camp to restore sight to people blind from cataracts.

The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stone Ridge Event Center, 5960 Burden Blvd., Pasco.

It will include a drawing for an Alaska cruise for two, valued at $5,000, through Princess Cruises.

Tickets for the drawing are $50.

They're available in advance at several locations in the Tri-Cities, including Ranch & Home, AAA Travel, Desert Valley Eye Care and Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute, all in Kennewick.

They'll also be sold at the door.

The money raised through the drawing will support Dr. Guzek's work in Ethiopia.

The cataract surgeon at Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute has made several humanitarian trips to Ethiopia since 2010.

Some Tri-City residents were part of the team on the latest trip, including Devi and Warren Tate, Don Pratt, Gregg Luehrs and Olivia Horne.

The team performed about 240 cataract surgeries while in Ethiopia. For more information on the work, go to
