Letter: Dogs need attention night and day

March 25, 2014

I work from home during the day. Most of you do not. I can tell because you leave your dogs outside all day, and they are bored! They express this by barking constantly. I can't even open a window because of all the dog noise.

I would ask you, as responsible dog owners, to think not only of your neighbors who might not want to listen to your dogs barking all day (and sometimes all night!), but to think of your pets as well. They need attention and stimulation, not just when you are home or when you feel like paying attention to them, but all the time.

If you can't be home during the day, consider coming home for lunch and taking them out for exercise. You and your pet will be happier for it. Also, make sure they have adequate food, fresh water and shelter from adverse weather conditions. My heart breaks whenever I see a dog out in the cold rain or snow with no place to be warm and dry.
