Suspects arrested for arson, may be connected to other fires

Tri-City HeraldMarch 24, 2014

— Franklin County authorities arrested four people suspected of lighting a field and haystack on fire.

Investigators suspect some of the people arrested Sunday may be involved in a series of fires in the past year in north Franklin County, Adams County and Grant County, said Sheriff Richard Lathim.

Lathim did not say which of the suspects may be involved in the other fires.

Arthur R. Johnson, 36, Othello; Nicole M. Monk, 36, Eltopia; Teresa Ferris, 33, Othello; and Eli J. Johnson, 24, Eltopia; were arrested Sunday as they left the scene of a grass fire near Connell, he said.

The four also are suspected of burning a haystack on Saturday near Eltopia. Lathim said detectives are investigating the motive behind the alleged arsons.

“Well, they liked to see things burn, I guess,” Lathim said.
