— A woman was taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon when the sports utility vehicle she was driving crashed into the Yakima River in Prosser.

The SUV took out a telephone pole near Byron Road before going off the road and into the river, fire officials said. Firefighters had to pull the woman out of the vehicle.

She had minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

The SUV ended up in a few feet of water and police are working to get it towed out of the river, officials said.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
