Whitman women lose in D3 championship

Heather Johns scored a game-high 25 points, but the Whitman Missionaries didn’t quite have enough to hold back FDU-Florham in an 80-72 loss in the NCAA Division III championship Sunday in Stevens Point, Wis.

The loss is just the second on the year for Whitman (31-2), while the Devils put the finishing touches on a perfect 33-0 season.

Johnson was 10-for-17 from the floor and 5-for-7 at the foul line. She also had seven rebounds and three assists in 38 minutes before fouling out.

Jalessa Lewis led Florham with 21 points and six assists, going 11-for-16 at the stripe. Kyra Dayon added 18 points and was named the tournament’s most outstanding player.

Sarah Anderegg added 15 points and Tiffani Traver 13 for Whitman.
